Troll

Trolls are horrid carnivores found in a variety of climates, but which prefer cold, humid swamplands as their hunting grounds. Most creatures avoid these beasts, as trolls known no fear and they attack brutally and unceasingly when they are hungry. Standing at nearly 3 meters tall, a trolls skin is leathery green-grey and covered in warts, but sprouting coarse bristles of hair here and there. They have sunken eyes that are often iron gray in color and can see in all but the deepest darkness.

Even though they might not look like it, trolls are rather agile and fast, especially when they are on a feeding frenzy. Trolls are incredibly strong, and they have powerful arms that end in large hands tipped with sharp nails. While some trolls have been known to use weapons, most prefer to use their claws to tear into their enemy’s flesh, ripping skin and muscle with equal ease. It is not unusual for a troll to take a bite out of an opponent during the heat of battle.

As if this were not enough, a troll’s most fearsome defense is its regeneration. A troll’s body has the capacity to heal at an alarming rate. Anyone fighting a troll can see that even the most vicious wounds dealt to it will bubble, blister, and close in a matter of seconds. There have been reports of individual trolls being vulnerable to specific types of damage, and as such it is advisable to try different forms of attack and pay close attention to see if the troll is unable to heal from any of these.

If trolls have a weakness it’s their low intelligence and ravenous appetite. How exactly that can be used against them in an arena battle is another matter entirely. Good luck, challengers!

Arena Battle 3 - The Candidates

The following people are the ones that qualified for the Arena Battle 3 tickets. Bear in mind that as of today, more people than these have reached the required 6,500 points. However, the list of candidates is made up exclusively of the people who reached the requisite on the same day. Also note that in contrast to the previous two arenas, there will be a single team, drafted from both groups to fight in this one. Champions will be chosen randomly from these lists to see who will be going to the battle. Naturally, people who have competed in previous arenas are not included in this list. Here are the candidates.

XP Candidates

Francisco
Paulina
Mavi
Iljitst
Betty

Essence Candidates

Paulina
William
Francisco
√Āngeles
Mavi

Gold Candidates

None yet. However, turning in projects from the “menu” I posted on the classroom walls should change this. I will be grading these projects in the order in which they are turned in. This will help me determine who reaches 6,500 gold first in order to compile the list of candidates. Good luck!

Arena Battle 2 - Meet your enemy

Kara ap Morgandotho is one of the strongest women alive. Though she was born in a small village in the north, she has always shown extreme talents for the arts of fighting. In a fight, she favors her claymore “Griever”, but she has other smaller weapons at her disposal. Kara doesn’t usually wear heavy armor, but once she gets close to you, expect a series of devastating strikes, as she is both precise and powerful.

Finnegan of Tabashi is a warrior trained by a military group known as “the sons of the Leviathan”. He has participated in several battles in the southern wars, and he excels at defensive combat. Finnegan might not hit as hard as Kara, but bringing him down in melee combat will not be easy. He usually fights wearing lorica segmentata armor, aspis and a gladius.

Finally, Livio is rumored to be a sorcerer who made a deal with dark powers. It is said that this unholy alliance has made his body weak and frail, but in return he has access to an unlimited amount of mana. An expert at all forms of magic, Livio can prove to be extremely dangerous at a distance. He is particularly fond of fire and shadow attacks.

Good luck, challengers!

Come to die, tiny humans…

Arena Battle 3 - Meet your enemy

Only a handful of people have ever gone up against a dragon and lived to tell the tale. Those that have say that fighting one of these ancient beings feels like battling a living storm or trying to punch your way through a mountain.

Dragons have lived in the deepest parts of the world since before the first humans saw the light of the sun. Though they often choose to live away from the noise of civilization, it would be foolish to say that dragons have been “driven away” by humanity. In the mind of each dragon is the knowledge that they – and they alone – are the masters of the world and everything in it. To them, humans are little more than a pest that infests the corners of their house.

Countless legends have been written about dragons, and their feats have been immortalized in so many songs that it becomes difficult to separate fact from fiction. A few things, however, seem to be undoubtedly true:

First is their sheer size. Dragons stand larger than a house, with teeth as long as a man’s hand and talons as long as a forearm. The massive muscle system needed for them to move around added to their sheer weight means that each of their movements carries enormous power behind it. Getting hit by a dragon is devastating to say the least.

In addition to their size, dragons are also notoriously tough. They can take a massive beating and while it is not impossible to hurt them, it is quite hard to kill them. As their first and primary line of defense is a body completely covered in scales. These scales are as tough as steel, so even though it might be easy to hit a dragon, it isn’t as easy to actually do any damage to it. This defensive capability is slightly weaker around the dragon’s tail and hindquarters since the scales are smaller and thinner to allow for greater flexibility. Some brave souls also say that the scales are slightly weaker in the front part of the neck and torso, but reaching those would mean standing directly in front of the dragon (and thus being the primary target of his claws, bite, and flame), so not many are willing to put this theory to the test. As if this weren’t enough, dragons are said to be beings created by ancient magic. This means that the vast majority of human spells have little or no effect on them. What this means is that in spite of their impressive physical defenses, killing a dragon requires mere humans to exceed these defenses or to be able to cast spells of such power that they can bypass the dragon’s resistances; that’s what makes dragon hunters the stuff of legend.

Dragon_Hunter.jpg

In the offensive department, dragons attack by biting and clawing at enemies in front of them. As mentioned earlier, the power behind these attacks is devastating. So much that only the toughest armors have a chance of stopping the blows. In addition to this, a dragon can also use its tail to sweep and smash enemies that try to surround it. All of this is without even mentioning the dragon’s most terrifying weapon: it’s flame breath. A dragon can and often will breathe out a thick combination of fire, molten rock, and black smoke in a wide cone in front of him that stretches out several meters ahead. Anyone caught in such an area is sure to suffer severe burns even if they survive the experience. The only upsides to this is that their flame breath cannot be used constantly and that while it is being used the dragon cannot use any of its other attacks.

As a final note, it would be worthwhile to say that a dragon’s wings allow it to glide over long distances, but not to fly with any degree of control over short distances. This means that once a dragon lands for a fight, it will not take off and reposition during a fight.

Best of luck, slayers!

Tournament Brackets

The image with the brackets is pretty big. If you can’t read it, right-click on it and select “Open image in new tab” or “View image”. The small grey number to the left of each match is the order in which battles will be fought. A challenger absent when he/she is scheduled to fight will lose the battle by default.

Good luck, challengers!
